Does your company accept unsolicited scripts? What is your preferred method of script submission (e.g. full scripts, 10-page extracts, synopses)? Do you prefer hard copy (if so, to what address) or electronic submission (if so, to what email)?
Yes, we do accept unsolicited submissions of full scripts along with a synopsis which is requested in the covering form. We only accept electronic submissions. What should writers expect if they send a script to you? (E.g. written acknowledgement, length of time between submission and response, feedback, etc.) Writers will receive an email confirmation that their script has been received and we work towards a 4 month deadline for a response. We are unable to offer feedback unless your script moves forward in the reading process. Is there a designated point of contact in your company for new writing (e.g. a resident dramaturg or literary manager)? All inquiries should go through [email protected] What structures does your company generally employ when working on new writing (commissions, workshops, readings, work-in-progress presentations, one-on-one dramaturgical meetings, etc.)? We offer all of the above on a case-by-case basis - we tailor the support on what the script requires. What kind of new writing is your company interested in? The Bush Theatre exists to produce wholly original plays that provoke conversation and are bold in their theatrical language. We are looking for plays with contemporary bite and which seek to reflect our contemporary culture. We are a theatre for London, now and as such invite new plays that have sharp questions of what it means to be living now. We want to house a plurality of voices, seek worlds that are under represented and characters who are drawn from the world outside our theatre. We encourage you to familiarise yourself with our work, by visiting us in Shepherd’s Bush and seeing a play or reading those plays we have produced recently. BushGreen is your first port of call to get to know our writers, read articles around our work and engage within a thriving community of artists. All work submitted to the Bush is read for production or development in the first instance and so you should think about your new play as a potential production for the Bush. Do you accept scripts from playwrights based in Ireland? Yes |
