![]() Does your company accept unsolicited scripts? What is your preferred method of script submission (e.g. full scripts, 10-page extracts, synopses)? Do you prefer hard copy (if so, to what address) or electronic submission (if so, to what email)?
The Traverse has rich history of working with some of the most adventurous playwrights in Scotland and around the world. The Traverse has an open script submissions window each year, dates of which are announced on our website. We are only able to accept scripts during the open submissions window. All submissions must be received electronically via our online submissions page Submittable: https://traverse.submittable.com/submit. Open Script Submissions introduce us to writers we may not otherwise know, as well as encouraging submissions from those with whom we have an existing relationship. The aim of open submissions is to begin dialogue and develop these relationships with writers rather than necessarily looking for new projects or commissions. What should writers expect if they send a script to you? (E.g. written acknowledgement, length of time between submission and response, feedback, etc.) We receive hundreds of scripts each year and endeavour to provide a response to all plays within 6 months. If, after reading your script, we find your voice particularly compelling, we will provide brief and, hopefully, useful feedback. Unfortunately, our resources do not allow us to provide feedback to all writers. Our priority has to be generating work for the Traverse. Is there a designated point of contact in your company for new writing (e.g. a resident dramaturg or literary manager)? If you have any questions please contact Literary Associate Rosie Kellagher or Artistic Administrator Catherine Makin on writing@traverse.co.uk What structures does your company generally employ when working on new writing (commissions, workshops, readings, work-in-progress presentations, one-on-one dramaturgical meetings, etc.)? We engage with writers in a number of ways throughout the year. Long-term roles, including fellowships, attachments, commissions and full productions, run alongside unique opportunities for readings, scratch nights and taking part in development sessions and workshops. What kind of new writing is your company interested in? We know that powerful stories, exploring big ideas, work best on our stages. We look for stories with as much heart as head, for writers that have something new to say about the world today or something new to say about theatre. We also ask that you carefully read through the submission guidelines on our website before deciding whether the Traverse is the right theatre for your work. Please see http://www.traverse.co.uk/writing/open-submissions/ for more information. Do you accept scripts from playwrights based in Ireland? (If you have a track record of producing Irish playwrights, could you mention some of the writers you have worked with?) The Traverse have a strong connection with Irish Theatre Companies, particularly in our Traverse Festival programme. Most recently these have included The Corn Exchange, Rough Magic, Dead Centre, Broken Talkers & The Abbey. We have also recently commissioned work by Owen McCafferty & Ursula Rani Sarma. |
